My boss is sooooooo sarcastically funny. HAHAHAHA. HILaRIOUS!

Given that many of you will be having Spring Break this next week, why not take some of that hard-earned free time and work additional hours for Mathnasium in the noble quest of advancing the mathematics education of our youth on an hourly wage you can barely survive on?

At our Corporate facility in Ladera Heights we have a new Center developing in response to students coming in through the No Child Left Behind federal grant program. Beginning this Sunday, all of next week, and the following Sunday, we are in need of additional staff to fill in for Tanika Evans who will be gone that week. Are any of you interested in this noble cause? Please let me know ASAP.

Dedicated to the Higher Pursuit,

Mark

This brightened my stomach flued/ throwupness day...

Dear Alice,

I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected to study on the EAP Summer Program at Sussex University for 2006. This will hopefully be one of the most memorable experiences of your UCLA career. Your application has been forwarded to the University-wide Office of the Education Abroad Program (UOEAP) in Santa Barbara.

You are now entering into the next phase of your EAP study abroad experience. This is where you must begin to prepare yourself for a successful time abroad, both personally and academically. EAP involves a complex relationship between UCLA, UOEAP, and the EAP staff in the UK. You may receive correspondence from any of these entities. It is your responsibility to make sure you understand all program materials and respond promptly when called to do so.

You should begin to prepare yourself for your time abroad by learning as much about your destination as possible. In order to continue your status on EAP, you must maintain the minimum GPA required for your specific program, remain in good standing, complete all program requirements, submit all required paperwork on time, and attend all mandatory meetings. Please see the enclosed "What to Expect" sheet for more information. Should you have the need to withdraw from EAP, you will need to provide notification to me in the form of a letter or an email message. Withdrawal deadlines are listed on the signature page of your EAP application.

***Please confirm with me and Rebecca Pisano via email (sara@international.edu and rpisano@international.ucla.edu) that you have read and understand this letter.***

We will keep in touch with you regularly; check your email account at least once a week for further instructions, announcements, etc. Please make sure to notify me if and when you move, change your telephone number or email address. Contact me if you have any questions or concerns and I'll do my best to assist you in any way I can.

You will be receiving a packet of further documentation to complete in April. I will alert you when it is ready to pick up from the UCLA EAP Office. There will also be a mandatory pre-departure orientation in late April and/or early May. More details will be forthcoming. Congratulations on your acceptance to the program!

Sincerely,

Sara McLachlan
International Programs Counselor

Today.. 2nd day of work, cept at a different location in Westwood... and I realized that kids these days are spoiled to no limit. and here are reasons why:

1. 5th grader, while I was tutoring, pulls out her moto razor b/c her friend called her and she complained "she always like to call me".. and I'm thinking "wow, your phone is better than mine by like 1000000X" Granted, she was wearing a shirt that says "I heart my daddy's credit card," obviously a shirt from Abercrombie.
2. a 7th grader was about to leave the tutoring center, busts out her pink t-mobile sidekick. There I was thinking.. "dang, I didn't even get a cell phone till 10th grade and you scored a sidekick from your parents?"
3. a 12 year old girl came up to me and asked "are those seven jeans?" and I was like "yes they are" and she went "OMG, they're so cute!" and i was thinking.. "girl, you're 12, and you know about sevens.."

What has the world come to? Oh wait, I live in L.A

Lets see... on the midnight of 2/5/06 marked the 21st year I've been on this planet... and I celebrated with basically all the people I loved dearly: Special thanks to all of you for the phone calls, text msgs, IMs, Facebook msgs, showing up to my night out excursions.. and what not.. :)

Here is the rundown:

Part l'un: Dinner with the family @ Macaroni Grill
So.. it's been a semi-tradition in our family to take the birthday person out to whichever restaurant they want to go, so I decided to go to Macaroni Grill this year :) I picked Tokyo Lobby last time but I was craving some Italian food :) So... I went out with my family and uncle's family.

My adorable cute brother bought me a birthday card!!! My uncle told me that he took him to Wal-Mart and then my brother asked my uncle to take him to the card aisle because he rememberd my birthday was coming up, so then he picked out a card for me and wrote "Dear Alice and Love Jonathan" in the card. I swear, it was the cutest thing ever, and now it's taped on my wall :)

Part Deux: Alice in Wonderland @ Hollywood & Sunset
Since I'm turning 21, I wanted to go out bar hopping. What good of a birthday if someone has to drive us around? so... I got a LIMO! :) H2 Hummer, we partied like a rock star :). Everyone that I wanted to go to my lil sunset, hollywood excursion went!
I started my day with a dead rat in the garage... or 1/2 alive, i guess. So, I was about to head out to start my car, I opened the door to the garage and I looked for my shoes and there lay a furry thing with a supurb long tail... and I was like FREAKING OUT cuz it's one thing to see a hamster dead, but a rat? and it was like maybe a softball size big rat lying under my sister's sneakers. I closed the door, and like started panicking. I opened the door again to see if it was alive, and I saw it breathing, because the abdomen of the rat was expanding and contracting.. so I was like "damn it, what the hell is it doing there lying under a shoe?!" But u see, I really had to go out, but I was afraid that it'd attack me and run around my foot or something .. so then I pulled the water sprayer thing out of the faucet, and started spraying water at it.. and it started moving... and it's head popped out of the shoe, and I was like "ok, it IS alive.. but just not moving"...

So.. to rescue myself, I called my neighbor's dad and he came over and sweeped the rat up for me... I think the rat ate poison that my dad placed around the garage and it was on the verge oe dying.. so yea. Poor thing :( I felt bad, but then I'm not all that into rats either, their tails are segmented and long and it looks like an earth worm attached to their behind!! EWWW

... ok, so that's my story with the dead rat.

damn commercials... so yesterday I was lounging around and watching TV and suddenly an oatmeal commercial came on.. and this aint some normal ordinary plain oatmeal.. it's instant Quakers oatmeal with flavors. and no, not maple brown suger or peach (which are my favorite).. but with HAZELNUT COCONUT!! so I got tempted and went to the supermarket today and bought some.. things they come up with in Taiwan/Japan.. mann. HAHA. They even have green tea with oatmeal and milktea with oatmeal. I mean, if they've got BOBA milktea, why not OATMEAL milktea? haha. It sounds gross, i know, but it's actually REALLY good. I think I'm gonna have to bring some back to the states now ;)

Oh.. and why do I find it shady that UCLA rec center is attempting to find instructors through CRAIGSLIST?!?
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/edu/119853920.html Wth.. haha. lame.

Miss
K.
happens to work for Oprah. The other day, she was in the Harpo studios
cafeteria getting breakfast, when lo and behold, there they were -
Kristin,
Jessica, Alex H. Alex M. and Taylor. Turns out they went to school
with one
of Harpo's marketing assistants and were there as her guests for the
show.
Miss K is a huge fan and was freaking out a bit (and she doesn't even
freak
out over celebrities!) and the marketing director said she would have
the
Laguna Beach girls stop by her office before they left." Source:
Unknown

So, there they were, the LB girls and Miss K which gave Miss K a
chance to
ask some pressing questions........here is the scoop:

* Jessica is not very smart (duh!) nor very pretty in person. She is
in
community college and not doing a whole lot. Miss K. asked her if her
parents were mortified by her behavior - she said they weren't exactly
pleased. She just used Jeff (boy that was at end of season) didn't
really
like him, just wanted someone to make out with.

* Stephen and Jason are good friends and live together in LA, but
Jason is
always at L.C's. Turns out he and LC never broke up and are still
dating.

* Also, turns out Jason has some MAJOR issues - the reason he didn't
go to
graduation.......he didn't graduate. He failed his senior year. Ditto
for
Talan.

* More on Jason - he has been in and out of rehab about 3 times in the
past
year. He is also bipolar and is on some major medication. His
grandparents
are the wealthy ones and his parents don't really work -just live off
of the
grandparents.

* More on Talan - his mom used to be some actress so is pretty
well-connected in Hollywood. The engagement to Kimberly Stewart is
just a
publicity stunt - they aren't really engaged. His mom is trying to
coach him
on getting himself into the limelight.

* Stephen and Kristin are dating - they just got back from a vacation
together in Hawaii - she's not really dating that Jenner guy - another
publicity stunt. Kristin is trying to "make it" in Hollywood.

* Taylor is at school at the University of Arizona.

* Alex H. and Alex M. are roommates. Alex M. is trying to make it in
the
music world and Alex H. dates a guy in Alex M.'s backup band.

* Another tidbit - Jason used to hit (ie, abuse) Alex M. when they
dated.
Per Alex M., the reason you didn't see that in the show is b/c MTV was
trying to sell a fantasy. That is also why you don't see Alex M. and
Jason
actually break up.

* LC is supposedly the meanest person of the bunch - they say she is
the
least approachable.

* Another thing, is apparently MTV and BMW have some sort of deal,
which is
why you always see them driving around in BMWs - ie, Kristin's dad
didn't
really buy her the BMW - she got it from MTV.

Hot and hotter. Discuss, hot stuffs.
